April seems to last forever in the best possible way. I know that March is the official start of Spring, but there’s just something special about April that sets our lives in motion. The snapdragons are in bloom in our front yard. Festivals have returned downtown. We celebrated Easter and went to The Masters golf tournament. There are so many fun April holidays and I wanted to capture those in some of our library book borrows this month. My favorite website to check out holidays is National Today!

April Library Books
Here are the physical library books we checked out at the beginning of the month:
Tomatoes for Neela by Padma Lakshmi - A beautifully illustrated picture book that introduces the culture of Indian food through a little girl’s relationship with her mother and grandmother.
Mina by Matthew Forsythe - A funny tale about a father and daughter with an unexpected twist.
Outside In by Deborah Underwood - highlights the importance of getting outside and the healing power of being connected to nature.
Arthur’s April Fool by Marc Brown - I couldn’t pass up this nostalgic title to celebrate April Fool’s Day!
Creepy Crayon! by Aaron Reynolds - A silly story about a crayon that has a life of its own.
The Dark by Lemony Snicket - The perfect picture book for little kids who are scared of the dark.
Oona by Kelly Dipucchio - A wonder-filled story about friendship, treasure, and adventure.
Henri’s Hats by Mike Wu - A story from the Pixar Animation Studio that explores the bond between a grandson and his Papa through stories from the past. This book will have your little one imagining a life of adventure.
On a Magical Do-Nothing Day by Beatrice Alemagna - Another book about the adventures that await us if we take the time to unplug from our devices!
Farewell Floppy by Benjamin Chaud - A book about growing up and saying goodbye to a beloved stuffed animal.
Hoopla Borrows
I also checked out some eBooks on Hoopla for Earth Day. I find the selection is better than the physical books available at our local library. My kids love to be on a tablet so this seemed like a good compromise. The only downside is that the borrows are limited.
Tokyo Digs a Garden by Jon-Erik Lappano - My personal favorite borrow this month. Tokyo plants magical seeds that help return the City to nature.
The Brilliant Deep: Rebuilding the World's Coral Reefs: The Story of Ken Nedimyer and the Coral Restoration Foundation by Kate Messner - A non-fiction book about restoring coral reefs and the power that just one person can have to save the environment.
Over and Under the Waves by Kate Messner - A favorite and well-known series. This title explores what’s over and under the waves from a kayak adventure.
Little Homesteader: A Spring Treasury of Recipes, Crafts, and Wisdom by Angela Ferraro-Fanning - An illustrated guide to fun Spring themed activities that families can do together.
Old Enough to Save the Planet by Loll Kirby - Stories of 12 young climate activists and their fight to save the planet.
I’ve linked to Bookshop.org where titles are available. If you purchase using the links above, I may receive a small commission at no cost to you. Bookshop.org supports Independent Bookstores! It’s a win-win.
We love the Oona books so much!
