Now that it’s October, it’s officially Fall in my mind. That means my reading tends to slow down and that the books I select tend to be a little darker. I gravitate towards dark academia, witchy characters, thrillers, mysteries, and speculative fiction.
I loved this post from
where Natalie details all the reasons why no dark academia book will ever compare to the genius that is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I read it at the beginning of the year followed by The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake and If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio and they left me feeling disappointed. It’s Fall and I’m still thinking about The Secret History.Books with Fall Vibes I’ve Read in the Past Year
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
My husband is finally reading Station Eleven and I can’t wait for him to finish so we can actually watch the TV series together.
Considering how short the chapters of Secrets Never Die by Vincent Ralph are, it feels like I’ve been reading this teen horror for ages. (I just checked and I’m approaching the one-month mark.) I picked it back up last night and I’m glad I did. The action really geared up again when the suspect was revealed. Let’s just say it’s the last scenario I expected.
Once I finish this book this week, I have a long list of books with Fall vibes I’d love to read. I don’t expect to make a huge dent in this list but it’s nice to have plenty of options that fit the moodiness of the season. If you’ve read any of these and loved them, please let me know so I can make a priority reading list!
On my Fall TBR List
Small Town Monsters by Diana Rodriguez Wallach
Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare
Monsters Born and Made by Tanvi Berwah
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Bunny by Mona Awad
Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy
If you need more fall reading inspo, check out this post of witchy book recommendations from last year. I read the These Witches Don’t Burn duology but the others are still on my list.
Witchy Books on my Fall TBR List
It’s October which means it’s officially spooky season! If you’re anything like me, you’re looking for a few witchy books to read this month in the lead-up to Halloween. There’s just something about the cooler weather that screams mischief and mysticism. I scoured the Internet and my bookshelves to come up with spellbinding books that are cozy with a sp…
What are you reading this month?
I need to read Station Eleven. Sea of Tranquility is one of my favorite books and I've been afraid to read her backlist-- fear of not liking it or no longer having it to look forward to, but I need to just do it already.
I just finished So Thirsty, I really liked it but I need to discuss it with someone, would be curious to hear your thoughts.
Thank you I am so honored to be included in my favorite season's post 😍. Truly we will never find anything like The Secret History... Also Emily St. John Mandel is a genuis. I have been meaning to read Once There Were Wolves, can't wait to hear your thoughts!
