My 2023 Reading Goal Might Surprise You
Happy New Year!
I’m back at work today after a very relaxing and restorative three-day weekend. This morning I made myself a bagel sandwich and wrapped it in paper. I may not live in NYC but I can still romanticize my life. I hope you’re finding little ways to embrace the new year.
I set some lofty reading goals in 2022 and I didn’t stick to them very well. If you need a reminder of the goals I made, here’s the shortlist:
Catch up on backlist titles.
Read through all the books I’ve won in giveaways.
Read at least one parenting book each month.
Focus on genres I really enjoy.
Utilize the library for new releases.
Moving into the New Year, I still hope those principles will guide my reading, but I’m only setting one goal. My 2023 reading goal might surprise you.
I know! Read LESS? After reading 75 76 books in 2022, I want to slow down my pace a bit. I felt a little burnt out on reading by the end of December and found myself not finishing almost every book I started. I just couldn’t get into anything. I took a couple of weeks off in the middle of the month to focus on Christmas and spending time with my family before picking up a new book.
In 2023 I plan to focus on quality over quantity. I hope it’s the year that I finally quit reading books that aren’t holding my attention or just aren’t my cup of tea. I’m encouraging you to embrace the fine art of the DNF (did not finish) this year as well! It really is a learned skill for those of us that hate quitting so be sure to give yourself some grace.
There are so many books on my bookshelf that really deserve my time and I’d like to use my own intuition to make those selections based on my mood instead of what’s popular on bookstagram.
This is a peek at my January TBR stack. I’m about 1/2 way through The Glass Hotel and loving it! Black Cake is our indie bookstore’s book club pick of the month. If I have time I’ll finish off the month with The Secret History because it seems fitting to read something with dark academia vibes in the winter months.
So cheers to 2023! I’m setting my Goodreads reading challenge goal at 25 and committing to reading just 30 minutes before bed most nights. Just a reminder that whether you read 1 book or 100 books this year, you’re still a reader. I’m happy to have you here!
