The April Edit
Spring has officially sprung and I’m spending more time outside and less time on my devices. These newsletters might slow down a bit in the coming months, much like my reading pace. We’re almost halfway through April and I haven’t finished a book yet. I’m savoring all the small things like sipping lemonade outdoors, watching my kids play at their water table, cooking with more veggies, and taking evening walks. As much as I love the cold weather, there’s something about Spring that makes me feel a little more alive.
Loving Lately
Here are a few things I’ve been loving lately.
Read: In addition to my daily readings, I’ve been working my way through The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. I started it last year on audiobook and the format didn’t work for me. I’m so glad I picked up a physical copy. Even though I’m reading it very slowly, I’m enjoying getting to know the cast of characters and learning about their magical abilities.
April book releases I’m looking forward to:
Happy Place by Emily Henry
Before We Were Innocent by Ella Berman
Moorewood Family Rules by Helenkay Dimon
Coronation Year by Jennifer Robson
My goal is to use my library more for new releases. Remind me of that!
Watch: I was excited to watch Outer Banks Season 3 but this season was a little bit of a stretch for me. I’m not sure if I’ll watch Season 4 or not. If you’ve watched— what did you think about the gnomon storyline?
We finally finished Daisy Jones & The Six and the last episode made me cry! I really enjoyed the book adaptation and thought they did a great job with the script and casting. From what I’ve seen, there are a few more Taylor Jenkins Reid book-to-movie adaptations in the works! The trailer for One True Loves looks really good and I feel like it has the potential to be better than the book.
Last month my husband and I had a quick getaway to Athens, GA where he was the MC for the Banff Mountain Film Festival showing there. My two favorite films from our showing were The Sounds of Creation ft. Goth Babe and Nuisance Bear. Two very different but equally moving films.
Our local library had a picture book-themed movie week for Spring Break. We took our kids to see The Bad Guys. They are little and still have a hard time sitting through a whole feature film so I finished it on Netflix over the weekend. It was really cute! It reminded me of Oceans 11 but with animals. The books are an illustrated series similar to Captain Underpants. I’m going to have to check them out.
Eat: We were fortunate to be able to go to The Masters golf tournament again this year so we’ve been on a pimento cheese sandwich kick. If you’ve never been, their concessions menu prices are unmatched. Sandwiches are only $1.50! If you’re looking for the perfect spring salad, the ideal pairing for pimento cheese is a Greenjacket Salad. I use my mom’s recipe from her time at the Greenjacket restaurant in her early 20s but Very Vera has a good recipe available online.
Wear: Hats, tennis skirts, and tennis shoes. See above. Masters fashion is a formula.
Homey Bits: We are struggling to find the perfect green paint for our kitchen. If you have any recommendations, please let me know! We are planning to paint the walls (not the cabinets) towards the end of this month. I’d love to have something bold but not too blue. Neither of these samples worked.
Listen: This playlist on Spotify has been on repeat in my car! Perfect for Jenny Lewis fans. Despite her age, I think she would have been the perfect Daisy.
Etc.: I’ve been messing around with the new Lemon8 app. I am enjoying it as an alternative to Instagram. It almost feels like Pinterest meets Instagram Guides meets Tumblr. I love some of the longer-form writing and journal feel. It is VERY aesthetic but at the same time, people seem more genuine, and less sales-y so far!
