Good morning! Can someone please tell me how we are in the last week of April? I’m looking forward to many fun events in May, but I don’t want to rush through these last few days of April without appreciating them.
R - Reading
🎧Audio: Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday, a sports romance that’s mostly about grief, narrated by Joshua Jackson!
Under Your Spell by Laura Wood, a cozy British novel I’ve been meaning to get around to since
first recommended it. It was a nearly perfect swoonworthy romance that deserves more hype.📱Kindle: Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage, the last in the Blue Rebel Rance series. To my surprise, it made me cry around the halfway point.
E - Eating
the new birria taco kit from Costco (just okay, likely won’t repurchase)
steak and ravioli with arugula and alfredo sauce
Hamburger Helper with roasted brussel sprouts
chicken and rice pilaf
Steak hibachi
P - Playing
Ransom Canyon on Netflix. This cowboy drama reminds me so much of some old TV shows on the CW I watched during my teen years. Am I hooked on it? No, but it was enjoyable enough to keep watching. It finally picked up for me around Episode 7 when the actors decided to do some real acting!
O - Obsessing over
Lobster print for summer.
R - Recommending
It seems like music is having a country moment. Julien Baker & TORRES’ new album, Send a Prayer My Way is the latest foray into the genre from an indie artist. My husband was listening to this album over the weekend and I was struck by the somewhat unexpected harmonies. There’s a balance between TORRES’ raspiness and Baker’s sweeter tones. What surprised me the most is the depth and romanticism of the lyrics. Send a Prayer My Way feels like an ode to country music as much as it is a hats off to the lifestyle and landscape.
Gigi Perez also has a new album out called At The Beach, In Every Life. I’ve loved Sailor Song since it first made its rounds on TikTok and Nothing, Absolutely stuck out to me at first listen. It’s passionate and nostalgic. You can feel Gigi struggle with grief and grapple with love in her lyrics. The delivery is stunning.
T - Treating myself
Now that I’m painting my nails at home again, I treated myself to a few new Olive & June polishes: Secret Recipe - a classic blue-toned red; Stinson Sunset - a peachy-pink hue; Strawberry Scone - a cool, sheer pink; and JLR - a sunny yellow.
Yesterday was Indie Bookstore Day and I picked up this book that’s been on my wish list for a few months!
Hope you had a great weekend!
