We didn’t do anything to celebrate the holiday this year. My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed the day before so we had a relaxing day at home. I did a bit of laundry and cooked burgers on the grill for the adults. Camp went really well and I’m heartbroken for the parents still looking for their kids in Texas. Climate change has me feeling anxious. We’re expecting some impacts from another tropical storm on the South Carolina coast this weekend. It’s become our new normal during Hurricane season to have to prepare for the worst.
R - Reading
🎧 Audiobook: Work in Progress by Kat MacKenzie I originally checked this out from my library but I forgot that I purchased the audiobook from the Libro.fm sale! I decided to move forward with the audiobook and return the new release to the library.
📱Kindle: I’m reading an eARC of Well, Actually by Maze Eddings. This blurb from the publisher caught my attention: “Eva Kitt never expected to be the host of Sausage Talk, interviewing B-list celebrities over lukewarm hot dogs, instead of pursuing the journalism career she dreamed of. But when Eva’s impromptu public callout of her college ex goes viral, she’s thrust into the spotlight. It doesn’t help that said ex is Rylie Cooper, a beloved social media personality who has built a platform on deconstructing toxic masculinity and teaching men how to be good partners.” I read the first 1/3 of the book in one sitting, which never happens! The banter is top tier.
E - Eating
The best brisket in the south from Lewis Barbecue (Greenville location).
Pictured: Green Chile corn pudding, pickled red onions, pickles, mac & cheese, creamy potato salad, sliced brisket, pulled pork, green chile cheddar sausage, and bread with chocolate dirt pie for dessert. Shout-out to my friend Lauren for giving me her menu recommendations. Everything is served family-style with extra paper for plates.
Beef enchiladas with sour cream and avocado
Pierogies with cheddar sausages
frozen PF Chang’s chicken, spring rolls, and sticky rice
burgers, cowboy caviar, and pasta salad
spaghetti
lots of popsicles and ice cream
P - Playing
F1 The Album
Dayglow (Superbloom) by Dayglow
Drift Theory by The Brummies
Virgin by Lorde
Also lots of Barbies. My kids have gotten creative making their own house (despite owning the Barbie dream house and camper). I’m happy to see them doing something together without screens.
O - Obsessing over
The afternoon light in our living room lately.
R - Recommending
Grillos pickle chips.
T - Treating myself
This week’s at-home manicure: Field Day by Olive and June. I like this color, but I wish I had read the description because I don’t think the bottle color/photos on their website translate very well. It is definitely a watermelon “red”. It pulls coral in artificial lighting and is very pink in natural light.
Hope you had a great weekend!

Wishing your daughter a quick recovery! My little one had that same surgery last year and the week after was a nightmare 🫠 Hoping is smoother sailing for you all 🤞🤞🤞
Wishing your daughter a quick recovery and yes, I too, feel a lot of dread with the seasonal extremes.
