Such a good idea - will be so interesting what ideas they resurface, or new things you’ll uncover on the second read through

It’s been so long since I’ve read some of the elementary age books that I think I’ll have a totally different perspective now as an adult!

Don’t be scared! You got this. I’m still on the lookout for bridge to terabithia for you! I also loved Night and the babysitters club. My list would also def include Are you There God, It’s Me Margaret. So good for a preteen girl!

My MIL got all of those books after the movie came out so I’ll have them for R when she’s ready! I am planning to read Bridge to Terabithia this month and I’m going to borrow it for the library. If you find a copy LMK because I still want it for our collection to pass on!

Oooh I am so excited about this challenge! The closest way to read a book for the first time again is waiting a long time and then rereading. I can’t wait to hear how it goes!

That’s exactly how I think it’s going to be for some of these like Charlotte’s Web... the first chapter book I ever read!

Y’all - I never read Bridge to Terabithia until I was on a plane as an adult and let me tell you, 30k feet up and sobbing surrounded by strangers is not the way to read that book. 😂

So great!! I love a YA re-read or just reading a YA book for fun to shake things up. I love your list and also...how old were you when you read Lolita? This list must span multiple years of growing up! Ones that would for sure be on my list: A Wrinkle in Time, Matilda, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Face on the Milk Carton, and Maniac McGee.

I’m reading The Chronicles of Narnia to my kids right now, one chapter at a time at night, and they are loving it. Harry Potter and the His Dark Materials series are also on the docket for them.

Those teen years would have to be Beloved, East of Eden, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, and anything by Vonnegut. As long as I never have to reread The Turning of the Screw. Then again, maybe I should try it and see if it is still such a miserable read for me or if it was simply a case of “we met at the wrong time.

Can’t wait to read more about this journey for you!!

I think I’m starting with Bridge to Terabithia and I’m fully prepared to cry. Again. I first read Lolita when I was 15ish. Half of this list are early high school reads. It launched my obsession with Nabakov and loose interest in Russian literature. I don’t think I’ve read any of the books you read as a teen!

Get those tissues ready! And don’t read it on a plane. I love Nabakov but somehow have not read Lolita! I’ll join you in reading that one this year. I’d stand by any of those teen year books I’ve listed - Beloved scared me as a teen so I want to read that one again because Toni Morrison is a powerhouse and I want to reframe that one in my mind. Anywayyyy! Love this project!

I’ve yet to read any of her books but I know that one is a crowd favorite. I hope to get around to it... eventually! I feel like even this challenge is ambitious in a year I’m attempting to finish several series I’ve already started.

I’m definitely not the only one attempting a similar project but I am excited to hear which books you pick!

Me too! We'll see! I already have a few on my TBR that are rereads, but I'm excited to choose 12.

Where did you design that book graphic? Am I copying everything you do now? LOL.

I’ve read 4 of the ones you selected! I’m interested to see which ones resonant with you as an adult and if you have any significantly different takeaways / reviews after rereading. Cheers to your new project!

Ooh which books? I'm most interested in seeing if I'd still claim them as favorites after my rereads.

I was a huge Babysitter’s club friend (may have started a copy-cat series), A Wrinkle in Time, Charlotte’s Web and The Catcher in the Rye.

My mom used to thrift the BSC books for me! I loved them. I can’t believe we didn’t keep any. My daughter bought one of the graphic novel adaptations at the book fair this year. I think she’s a little young to appreciate it but we might read it together. I tried the show but couldn’t get past the first season. It would definitely be cute for tweens!

You did better than me with the show— made it 2-3 episodes maybe? There was an old Babysitter’s Club show that I loved!! The movie was also quite good IMO. How old is your daughter? I love the idea of reading them together but will have to wait a bit for mine.. she’s 2 😄

I just completed Bridge to Terabithia. It was beautiful and heart breaking and reminds me how far from the fantasies / gullies of childhood I have fallen from 🥲
