Yes!! I loved Things You Save in a Fire. It's so well done. I honestly wouldn't have thought that I would have liked it as much as I did, but it's so full of humanity. So so good.
Really enjoyed reading your thoughts on each of the books you read. I’m currently listening to How to End a Love Story but may have to switch to my physical copy. What did you think of the narrators?
I think I found a groove by the end but I'm a big proponent of switching the format if it's not working for you. It truly makes a huge difference in my enjoyment of some books. In the case of How to End a Love Story I thought some of the narration was almost too angsty.
I often wish I had all formats of every book so I could switch as need be. I’m going to try to make time to sit with my physical copy and see if I settle in. The female narrator sounds a little dry but perhaps she will relax as the character does.
Ooo Funny Story is on my list! My favorite book this month is so hard to pick! I think it would have to be Iona Iverson's Rules of Commuting. I loved the characters and didn't want it to end.
Oh I love all these recommendations. You are my go-to for finding my next grown-up read. I've been eyeing Funny Place and this all the motivation I need.
I love how thorough you are in a way that doesn’t give anything big away! I was able to snatch The Secret Garden from a secondhand bookstore this week and so excited to read it! I honestly can’t remember if I read it when I was young or not
What a great month, I love seeing all those beautiful illustrated covers together. I keep meaning to pickup Bride, maybe this is finally the nudge I needed as I'm in a bit of a rut. Currently listening to How to End a Love Story but the spice and narration are holding me up, Kendra from the Lazy Genius shared a fancast for the characters in her newsletter and I think that might be what I needed to keep going! She also did a fancast of Funny Story with Emma Stone as Daphne and I hadn't given her much of a form but that works for me, almost makes me want to reread! I loved it so much too.
Ahhh and Charlotte's Web, the very start of my vegan journey as a child. 🥲
I would give Bride an edge in the physical book over the audio but I think if you're comfortable with the themes in Twilight it's not that much of a stretch. I think it's another one of those books that is able to bridge the gap between romance and fantasy/the Omegaverse for people. I've got to check out Kendra's fancast. Those are always so much fun. Hmm... not sure I pictured Emma Stone but that gives me some food for thought. Charlotte's Web was a really good reread! I can definitely see how it would make you feel much more compassion toward animals.
I love Katherine Center books!!
Which book would you recommend next from her backlist?
Yes!! I loved Things You Save in a Fire. It's so well done. I honestly wouldn't have thought that I would have liked it as much as I did, but it's so full of humanity. So so good.
I’m intrigued by Bride. I’m not usually a romance reader, but I do enjoy some paranormal! Enough plot to keep me interested??
Oh yes! There's a fun mystery element that runs throughout.
Your April seems like it had such a nice Spring vibe! I added Birding with Benefits and The Backtrack to my TBR :)
It did! They're both fun quick reads so I hope you make some time for them!
I added How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang to my TBR!! What a splendid month you had because of these tender stories; the greatest! 💛
I think you'll love the depth of the story, Clare!

I'm struggling with it on audio too and had the exact same thought!

The Rom-Commers was a true DELIGHT. I would say read The Bodyguard next. I love her writing.

It sounds really good! The book cover is also really eye-catching.

What a compliment! I really enjoyed it and think it's great for spring/summer.

Oh good! This is great feedback to hear. Funny you mention The Secret Garden because my friend recently picked that one up for me too!
